Broadband in the North Dorset towns, and particularly in the surrounding rural areas, is totally inadequate and if we are to see growth in our rural economy, it is vital that it is brought quite literally up to speed. Solutions proposed by Government and the major providers are likely to concentrate on easy to reach urban areas.
To achieve the huge improvement we need, we have to make our views known to government, BT and other broadband providers before the 22nd November. To lobby effectively we need to collect robust data to support our case. CPEND, which is a body made up of, amongst others, the four community partnerships in Shaftesbury, Blandford, Gillingham and Sturminster Newton has been awarded a grant from Sowing Seeds to support the work of a Broadband Team headed by Steve Adamson. A key element of the team̢۪s work is to complete a survey in the district so that the results may be presented to the appropriate decision makers who can help to make a significant difference to local businesses who require a faster and more reliable Broadband service.
